Young’s Market Company has been appointed the sole distributor of Rutherford Wine Company brands in California effective February 1, 2014.

Rutherford Wine Company is family-owned and managed. Morgan Zaninovich (3rd Generation) oversees the day-to-day operations. The portfolio of wines represents the rich diversity of California’s outstanding appellations. Today, the portfolio includes Rutherford Ranch Winery (Napa Valley), Scott Family Estate (Arroyo Seco), Predator (Lodi), Round Hill (California), Lander-Jenkins (California), Rhiannon (California), Red Bandana (California) and Silver Buckle (Lodi/Central Coast).

The company is based at Rutherford Ranch Winery, in Napa Valley’s Rutherford District – one of the region’s most renowned sub-appellations. The winery and estate vineyards have been certified sustainable by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance for 3 years. The winery received the ‘Family Owned Winery of the Year’ Award at the 2012 New York International Wine Competition. Rutherford Ranch Winery was named ‘Napa Winery of the Year’ at the 2013 NYIWC in addition to a host of accolades. The critically acclaimed wines have been characterized as one of Napa’s great values by noted wine writer Robert Parker and consistently receive ‘Best Buy’ and ‘Best Value’ awards from the wine press and gold medals from national competitions.

The winemaking team is headed by Steve Rued. Born in Healdsburg, California and raised on his family’s vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley, Steve graduated with a degree in fermentation science from UC Davis. After a year at Kenwood Vineyards, he ventured to South Africa to work for Stellenbosch Farmer’s Winery. In 2000, he returned to Kenwood Vineyards as the Winemaker, and joined Rutherford Wine Company in 2005. Tyson Wolf is the Associate Winemaker. A St. Helena native, he developed an early passion for winemaking by helping his father make home wine. Tyson graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He began his winemaking career at William Hill Winery and later at Mumm Napa. He joined Rutherford Wine Company in 2003, and was named Assistant Winemaker in 2007 and Associate Winemaker in 2010.

Uncompromising and ecologically far-sighted viticulture is an ethical imperative for the Zaninovich Family and the RWC team. Though more labor intensive than prevalent commercial winegrowing methods, their efforts are rewarded with fruit rich in flavor and character. And great fruit is a prerequisite for great wine.
