Philana began her career in the bar and restaurant business in Hawaii that has carried her into a series of entrepreneurial pursuits and a total of 12 years experience in beverage sales and distribution.  As well as working for Anheuser-Busch and Southern Wine & Spirits in Hawaii. Philana has a strong background in sales, marketing, public relations and brand building for boutique beverages and spirits. Prior to joining Young’s Market Company, Philana is also the Co-Founder for Waiwera Water USA.

In January of 2011, Philana joined Young’s Market Company as the Vice President - Director of Regional Accounts for Southern California overseeing Regional and Hotel accounts in Southern California.

Before moving to Los Angeles in 2009, Philana was a Hawaii resident of 17 years.  After returning home, she has been promoted to Executive Vice President, General Manager overseeing the sales execution and operations throughout the state of Hawaii.

Hugh Duncan rejoins Young’s Market Company Hawaii as the VP General Sales Manager and will be responsible for driving sales initiatives with our suppliers, customers and the sales organization throughout the Hawaii state General Market, Chains and On Premise. Hugh brings a wealth of knowledge in wine and spirits to the Young’s Market Company Hawaii operation with 21 years of industry experience.  Hugh has held senior leadership positions with Gallo, Johnson Brothers, and Brown Forman overseeing Hawaii, Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada.  Most recently Hugh was working for Times Supermarket, a subsidiary of PAQ Inc. , first as Director of Beverage Sales and most recently as Grocery Category Director.

Timothy Garrard

VP General Sales Manager The Estates Group

Tim brings well over 20 years of experience in Hawaii wholesale wine and spirits distribution to his role as sales manager of the Estates Group.  Having begun his career in the retail fine wine trade, he gained additional experience by moving into restaurant management and the hotel industry as a food and beverage manager.

Tim’s career has allowed him to manage the sales teams at many different Hawaii distributors over the years including Grand Crew Wine Merchants, American Wines & Spirits, Chambers & Chambers Wine Merchants, and Fine Wine Imports. He also took time to learn the off premise chain side of the business as the beverage buyer for Times Supermarkets.  Next he was enlisted by Johnson Brothers of Hawaii to acquire the brands necessary to create a fine wine sales division for this wholesaler that was traditionally focused on the Gallo family of brands.  In September of 2014, Tim was asked to join Young’s Market Company to lead the Estates Group.

As a 23 year industry veteran (11 years in beverage alcohol), Melody’s career has focused on sales, marketing, merchandising and category management.  Prior to Young’s Market Company, Melody has held positions as Divisional Manager at Advantage Webco Hawaii, Safeway Key Account Manager at Coca Cola Bottling Company and Better Brands and most recently, Vice President, Assistant General Manager, On and Off premise overseeing Diageo Spirits, Chateau and Estates and Moet Hennessy portfolio at Southern Wine and Spirits of Hawaii.
In January 2011, Melody returned to Young’s Market Company of Hawaii  as Vice President, Sales Manager of Chain and Off Premise.

Michael Berube, Vice President of On Premise Hawaii

Vice President of On Premise Hawaii

As the VP Sales Manager for the On Premise division, Michael will focus efforts to drive corporate and supplier objectives for the On Premise channel in the State through programming and strategic planning.  Michael brings over 20 years of experience in the industry as a supplier and a distributor holding key positions with E&J Gallo Winery as Area Manager of New York,  Australia & New Zealand, and as Hawaii State Manager since 1995.  Michael joined Johnson Brothers in 2012 as their Director of Retail Chains.  He possesses both Certified Specialist of Wine and Certified Specialist of Spirits designations. Utilizing his extensive background in our industry, he will add great value to or On Premise business.  Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree from Boston College where he was born and raised and moved to Hawaii in 1989.

Michael is a graduate of the University of La Verne with a BS degree in Organizational Management and has over 21years of experience in the wine and spirits industry. He began his career in 1990 working for Young's Market Company in Southern California as a Chain Sales Merchandiser. He spent several years in various supplier leadership roles including Chain District Manager and Distributor Regional Manager. In 2002, Michael became a Chain Director and since 2010, has held the position as a Spirits Portfolio Pricing Director in California.

Terry Tatsugawa, VP Sales Manager, Big Island

Born and raised on the Island of Hawaii, Terry began his career working for a large hotel chain, Hawaii Pacific Resort while attending college.  Terry joined Young’s Market Company in 1980 as a sales representative and left for a short period of time to work with a fine wine company covering three islands.  Upon his return  to the Young’s, Terry has held many positions including sales representative for all divisions, Division Manager and his present position as VP Sales Manager for the Big Island, where he continues to build strong relationships with all accounts, suppliers, team members, and the community where he resides.

Eric Fujimoto, VP Sales Manager Island of Kauai

Born and raised on the beautiful island of Kaua‘i, Eric started his career with Young’s Market Company of Hawai‘i after spending six years in the United States Navy.  Eric attended National University in San Diego while in the United States Navy and was on staff of the United States Seventh Fleet  Commander based in Yokosuka, Japan. 
Eric started his passion for the business when he joined Young’s Market Company as a driver/warehouse person.  Eric entered his sales career as a sales representative for the Chain/Off-Premise Division before being promoted to the On-Premise Division.  Eric the first Branch Manager for the Island of Kaua‘i and has handled several Key Account Executive positions before being promoted to his current position as Vice President & Sales Manager for the Island of Kaua‘i.

Keli’i joined Young’s Market Company in 2007 as a Key Account Manager for the General Market.  Prior to this, his experience entailed management in sales and marketing, public wine education including training restaurant staff and sales teams.  Keli’i also had experience managing a wine distribution company, implementing sales programs, negotiating with suppliers, and executing market presence. Then in 2009, Keli’i was promoted to the position Hawaii Branch Sales Manager and was responsible for our operation in Kona until January 2011.  Keli’i left, but re-joined our Young’s Market Company family in early 2012 as a Key Account Specialist responsible for On-premise street accounts and hotels.

Keli’i has over 20 years’ experience in the Food and Beverage business as a chef, restaurant owner and beverage consultant. He is a graduate of Kamehameha School and attended Kapiolani Community College where he majored in the Culinary Arts program. He has also served on the Board of Directors with the Hawaii Food Basket, and is a member of the Hawaii Restaurant Association.

David joined Young’s Market Company in 2010 as an Educator/Fine Wine Specialist. David has over 30 years of experience in the Wine & Spirits business in Hawaii, most recently as Educator and State Manager for Remy Cointreau. Prior to that he has worked as Sommelier, Maître d’, and General Manager in some of Hawaii’s top restaurants, wine lecturer for the University of Hawaii, and in sales distributors, retailers, and brokers.
David holds a Certified Wine Educator (CWE) and Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS) from the Society of Wine Educators, and the Advanced Certificate from The Court of Master Sommeliers.  He has traveled extensively throughout various wine regions of the worlds, published several wine and spirits articles, and lectured and served on numerous panels in the wine trade.

Patrick Okubo, Fine Wine Educator

After graduating of the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Travel Industry Management, Patrick moved to Lanai to be a restaurant manager at The Manele Bay Hotel. Through the re branding of becoming a Four Seasons Hotel and Resort he took over the wine program for both Manele and Koele and managed Ihilani, the fine dining restaurant at Manele. Patrick moved back to O'ahu to open Formaggio Grill as General Manager.

Patrick was the Pacific / Hawaii region winner of the Chaine des Rotisseurs Young Sommelier Competition from 2008 thru 2010 and is now the Enchanson Provencal.  Patrick holds a Certified Wine Educator (CWE) and Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS) from the Society of Wine Educators. In July 2011 Patrick became one of 192 Master Sommeliers in the world.

Donald Thompson, Portfolio Manager

Don Thompson is an original member of The Estates Group at Young’s Market Company and brings 35 years of experience to the team. Don began his career in the hotel industry, with Hyatt and Hilton Hotels, managing beverage, banquet, and fine dining programs. Prior to joining The Estates Group, Don worked at a prestigious fine wine distributor in Honolulu.
Don offers a vast range of experience and knowledge, specializing in working with restaurant and the independent retail trade. Don has an amazing track record for coordinating, developing and organizing dynamic and successful training seminars. His experiences offer long standing relationships with many of the most influential professionals and Hawaii wine buyers. Don has completed programs in both Guild of Master Sommeliers and Society of Wine Educators and is currently working towards a Certified Wine Educators degree (CWE).

Laurie Kawasaki, Vice President Finance - Hawaii

Vice President Finance - Hawaii

As Vice President of Finance, Laurie is responsible for the financial reporting and planning for Hawaii.  Laurie oversees finance, credit & accounting functions of Young's Market Company of Hawaii and works closely with Corporate Finance, Planning & Accounting as well.  Laurie earned her Accounting degree from the University of Hawaii and she is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Hawaii.  Laurie began her career with Ernst & Young Honolulu as an Audit Manager and moved into the Financial Services Industry after leaving public accounting.  Laurie worked as a Home Mortgage Consultant for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage- Honolulu, before moving to YMCO Hawaii in October 2005.  Laurie serves on the Board of The Hawaii Tax Foundation and she is the Treasurer for Aloha Medical Mission, a not for profit organization.
